Initial Ideas - Racing track.

For this assignment, I am to create and develop a functioning racing track based in a 19th century era set around a steam-punk theme. This racing track has to be extremely well thought out and researched correctly. Having an understanding on what works and doesn't is important when creating a level. The level must consist of -challenge, interaction, consistent, flow, relevant to theme, and goal etc. All these elements make a game enjoyable and attractable.

First of all i'm going to research racing tracks and how their put together from start to finish.

This is a standard figure 8 racing track - This track for example is easy because of it's large curving bends and long stretches. The track is simple and repetitive, it would become very boring pretty quick. It would appeal more to a young child or a beginner.

This track would be interesting because it's fairly moderate, it has challenging corners, long stretches and  open flow.A track like this with obstacles and short cuts would be very enjoyable because it offers the player a variety of environments to drive past/through.

This track would prove to be quite difficult because of it's tight corners, it's very challenging because one mistake could quickly change your position in the race, finding it hard to catch up due to the lack of long stretches.

Other interesting racing tracks that could be of some use in the creation of my own.
